Robert Jesse Eastman
March 7, 1936 – November 17, 2022

Lifelong Newberry resident, Robert Jesse Eastman, 86, died Thursday morning November 17, 2022 at Hearthside Assisted Living in Sault Ste. Marie.

Born March 7, 1936 in Newberry, son of the late Jesse and Evelyn (DeKeip) Eastman, Bob was a 1955 graduate of Newberry High School. On September 11, 1965, he married the former Sandra Normand in Marquette and made Newberry their home.

Bob was employed as an Attendant Aide at the former Newberry Regional Mental Health Center for several years until his retirement in 1987. Bob was an avid Detroit Tigers fan and enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and playing cribbage.

In addition to his parents, Bob is preceded in death by his wife Sandra on March 5, 2005; siblings Kenneth Eastman, Warren Eastman and Alice Eastman.

Survivors include his sons Michael (Laura) Eastman of Sault Ste. Marie and Robbie Eastman of Marquette; grandchildren Greg (Courtney) Dunning, Trish Ann Eastman and Steven Eastman; great-granddaughter Hanna Dunning; longtime companion Shirley Fentak.

Per reqeust, cremation services were accorded. A gathering celebrating the life of Bob will be held at a later date. Interment will take place at Forest Home Cemetery.

Ronald Terry Pongracz
October 5, 1951 – November 19, 2022

Longtime Rexton resident, Ronald Terry Pongracz, 71, died Saturday morning November 19, 2022 at Mackinac Straits Health System in St. Ignace.

Born October 5, 1951 in Wyandotte, son of the late Julius and Catherine (Nemeth) Pongracz, Ron was graduate of Ecorse High School. On December 23, 1968, Ron married the former Cynthia Fauer and made Rexton their home.

Ron was employed as a deputy sheriff for the Mackinac County Sheriff’s Department for 27 years until his retirement in 2012. Ron was a member of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Naubinway, F & AM Lodge #369 in St. Ignace and was the first fire chief for the Hudson Township Fire Department. Ron enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking.

In addition to his parents, Ron is preceded in death by his grandson Paul Rossi and siblings Julius Pongracz, James Pongracz and Barbara Peterson.

Survivors include his loving wife, Cindy, of Rexton; children Ronald (Karen) Pongracz of Maybee, Michigan and Daniell (Christopher) Barrera of Sneadsferry, North Carolina; grandchildren William Abraham, Christopher Barrera, Taliana Barrera and Miranda Sharpes; sister Betty Grant of Riverview, Michigan.

A gathering of family and friends will take place Saturday, November 26, 2022 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Naubinway. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 am at the church with Fr. Phil Witkowski officiating. Rite of Committal will take place at the Maplewood Cemetery.
