Albert Carpenter
March 29, 1944 – December 7, 2022

Albert “Buck’ Carpenter, age 78, of Bloomfield Township, passed away December 7, 2022. He was born on March 29, 1944 in Newberry, Michigan, a son to the late Glen and Beatrice Carpenter (nee Nelson).

He was the loving husband of the late Sharon and dear companion of Virginia Hendricks; dear father of Dennis (Tressa) Carpenter and Melissa Carpenter; proud grandfather of Robert and Damien Carpenter; dear brother of Glen (Mary) Carpenter, the late Bob (Carol) Carpenter, the late Michael Carpenter, and the late Dorothy Pringle. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and extended family.

Buck was a veteran serving his country in the United States Navy. He worked for Pontiac Motors for many years. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, playing blackjack and seeing the world on a cruise ship.

A Memorial Service was held on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at 12:00 Noon at Coats Funeral Home- Waterford. The family received friends on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until time of service.

Alice Irene Nelson

November 26, 1958 – December 18, 2022

Alice Irene Nelson, 64, of Newbery, died Sunday morning, December 18, 2022 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.  Alice was born November 26, 1958 in Edmore, Michigan.

A resident of Newberry for several years, Alice was a graduate of Newberry High School.  She held several employments during her lifetime including at the Seney Wildlife Refuge, Helen Newberry Hospital and, most notably, at Newberry Motors as an automobile detailer for 17 years which she loved, excelled and took pride in.

Alice was a longtime loyal and faithful member of Northstar Baptist Church in McMillan and loved her church and church family in addition to God!  Alice enjoyed crocheting, making blankets for many families and friends.  She also enjoyed pike fishing with her husband, Ken, along with preparing and eating the days catch.  Long rides in the woods were a favorite pastime along with watching the blue jays.  Alice was loved by all and all that knew her.

Alice is preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Maybelle Wilson; her granddaughter Alirene Lewis; her siblings Orval Wilson, Edith McGrandy, Nancy Andrews, Joyce Thompson, Warren Staples, Lloyd Staples Laurell “Bud” Staples and Marty Staples; her nephews Matthew Wilson and Duane Wilson II; her nieces Lucille Storms and Megan Wheeler.

Survivors include her loving husband, Ken, whom she married November 22, 1980; her children Kevin (Sara) Nelson of Newberry and Sharon (Bennie III) Lewis of Rudyard; her grandchildren Emily Nelson of North Dakota, Bennie Lewis IV of Rudyard, Brien Nelson of Newberry, Keirsten Nelson of Newberry, Kevin Nelson Jr. of Newberry, Kolten Nelson of Newberry and Desiree Maryweather; siblings Sharon (Ray) Beasinger of McMillan, Duane (Joyce) Wilson of Saginaw, Gary (Judy) Wilson of Saginaw, Donnie (Debbie) Wilson of Wilmington, Vermont, Linda Wilson of Saginaw, Nelson (Lynn) Staples of Saginaw, Sandy Miller of Indiana and Larry Staples of California; several nieces, nephews and countless friends.

A gathering of family friends will take place Monday December 26, 2022 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the Northstar Baptist Church in McMillan.  Funeral services celebrating the life of Alice will follow at 11:00 am at the church with Pastor Paul Williams officiating.  Interment will take place in the spring of 2023 at Forest Home Cemetery in Newberry.
