Undersheriff Eric Gravelle will be the new Luce County Sheriff effective January 1, 2023.
The decision took place on Wednesday, December 14 at the Luce County Courthouse during a meeting of the appointment committee. Gravelle was the sole applicant for the appointment, and his application was reviewed and accepted during the meeting.
Two-term sheriff John Cischke announced in October that he is retiring effective December 31. Cischke was reelected to the position of sheriff in 2022, with a term to expire in 2024. The vacancy was advertised in a search for applicants for appointment.
Deputy Mike Peters will serve as Gravelle’s new undersheriff.
The Luce County Sheriff position will be up for election in 2024.
