This Memorial Day weekend, the Newberry area reached Extreme Fire Danger status.

With an extended forecast of dry weather, the fire danger will remain elevated through Wednesday. Local volunteer fire departments and the DNR office have responded to several fires in the last couple of weeks that were all human caused.

Currently, Burn Permits are shut off and will continue to be that way till we get a change in the weather pattern.

Many people came up to work on camps and enjoy the north this weekend. Please hold off on burning those debris piles and check the burn permit maps available at https://www2.dnr.state.mi.us/burnpermits.
