Henry W. Brockman
May 13, 1930 – October 28, 2023

Henry “Hank” Walter Brockman, 93, of Curtis died Saturday afternoon, October 28, 2023 at his residence in the presence of his loving family and the care of North Woods Hospice.  Hank was born May 13, 1930 in Engadine, son of the late Herman and Anna (Price) Brockman.

On September 2, 1951, Hank married the former Loreen “Lou” Slaybaugh and, on December 14, 1951, Hank enlisted into the United States Marine Corp. serving during the Korean War until his honorable discharge of December 2, 1953, attaining the rank of Corporal.  During his service in Marine Corp., Hank was an accomplished sharpshooter competing in rifleman competitions.

Following his honorable discharge, Hank resided in Climax and was employed at Kellogg’s for 25 years, retiring as Supervisor in 1985.

A resident of Curtis following his retirement, Hank was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Engadine and the American Legion Post #74 in Newberry.  His hobbies included hunting and fishing.

In addition to his parents, Hank is preceded in death by his wife Lou on December 7, 2012 and brothers Edward and Alvin.

Survivors include his daughters Kathy (Allen) Frazier of Naubinway, Janette Armstrong of Curtis, Nancy (Terry) Watson of Curtis and Sally (Jim) Swarthout of Climax, MI; Henry was loved by his 9 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren; siblings Donald (Carol) Brockman of Grand Rapids and Marie Ketvirtis of Vicksburg.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Hank will be held Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 11:00 am at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Engadine with Pastor Kyle Kuehl officiating.  Interment with military rites rendered by the United States Marie Corp. and the American Legion Post #74 will follow at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Curtis.

Lucille Rosalina Adler
March 1, 1932 – October 31, 2023

Longtime Newberry resident, Lucille Rosalina (Friske) Adler, 91, died Tuesday morning October 31, 2023 at Medilodge in Cheboygan.

Born March 1, 1932 in Engadine, daughter of the late John and Augusta (Hildabrandt) Friske, Lucille married Walter Adler September 3, 1949 in Engadine.

In her younger years, Lucille was employed at the A & W Restaurant and the Falls Hotel but most notably as a bookkeeper at the Newberry State Hospital and Cummings-McCraney Real Estate until her retirement.

Lucille was a former longtime active member of Trinity Lutheran Church serving in the ladies’ aide and Sunday school teacher and presently a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church where she remained active in church activities.  Lucille enjoyed quilting, baking and sewing.

In addition to her parents, Lucille is preceded in death by her husband Walter on July 4, 1999.

Survivors include her children David (Linda) Adler of St. Ignace, Bonnie (John) Williams of Sterling Heights, Judy (Bob) Brown of Cheboygan, Bob Adler of Anchorage, Alaska and Sue (Rich) Langley of Rexton; 13 grandchildren; sister Violet Schroeder of Engadine.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Monday November 6, 2023 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.  Funeral services celebrating the life of Lucille will follow at 2:00 pm at the church with Pastor Melinda VanderSys officiating.  Interment will take place at Forest Home Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the American Legion Post #74 Ladies Auxiliary, 7064 State Hwy. M-123, Newberry, Michigan 49868 in her loving memory.

Tanya Marie Haas
January 29, 1972 – October 22, 2023

Tanya Marie (Jack) Haas, 51, passed away Sunday, October 22, 2023, at McLaren Hospital in Lansing, MI. She was born on January 29, 1972, in Manistique, MI, the daughter of Jerry and Sally (Gehrett) Jack of Curtis, MI.

Tanya attended Germfask Elementary School and graduated from Manistique High School in 1990.

For many years Tanya owned and operated a daycare center from her home in Holt, MI.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her children and family. Tanya was sick for many years, but fought hard to live. She brought joy and laughter from the beginning of her life until the end.

In her last act of kindness, Tanya was able to donate her kidneys to two people waiting for a donor. Tanya received the Heroes Walk of Life on her way to surgery as an organ donor. What a blessing.

Tanya is survived by her children, D.J. ( Dominique) MacPhail, McKenzie Haas and Jay Haas; grandson, Bennie and granddaughter, Maevyn MacPhail; her parents, Jerry and Sally Jack; siblings, Melissa Streeter, Jerry (Lori) Jack and Jason Jack Sr.; nieces, Brooke, Brianna, Shaelyn, Jenna and Lilly Jayde; nephews, Jerry III, Jason Jr., Kahdyn and Justin; friend, Cliff; and many cousins, aunts and uncles.

There will be a celebration of life for Tanya at a later date.
