Shirley Jean Kisabeth
April 18, 1939 – December 12, 2023
Shirley Jean Kisabeth, 84, a former resident of Curtis, died December 12, 2023 after a 25-year battle with breast cancer. Shirley died at her home in Petoskey, surrounded by her family.
Shirley was born April 18, 1939 in Newberry, daughter of the late Mervin and Annabelle (Marlette) Conlon. On July 27, 1957, Shirley married Jack Kisabeth of Curtis. In 1962, Jack started his career with General Motors and moved their family to the Pontiac area. Shirley was a devoted mother and homemaker, raising their five children in Lake Orion. Following Jack’s retirement in 1991, they moved back to Curtis.
Shirley was an active volunteer in the Curtis community and for the Erickson Center for the Arts. She enjoyed the annual Follywood revue, Art on the Lake, Music in the Park, Deck the Walls, and the Wine and Cheese events. Shirley was an avid gardener and member of the Garden Club, as well as a gifted crafter. She spent her final years at the Independence Village of Petoskey where she continued to craft and developed many friendships with residents and staff.
In addition to her parents, her husband Jack precedes Shirley in death on September 24, 2019. Also siblings, Carol Kuene, Michael Conlon, and Patrick “Biggy” Conlon; brothers-in-law Fred Kuene, and Wayne Weber.
Survivors include her loving children, Steve (Kathy) of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, Teri (Barry) Cummings of Berea, Kentucky, Gayle (Mike) Wagner of Calera, Oklahoma, Cheryl (David) Garrett of Harbor Springs, and James (Linda) of Harbor Springs; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; sisters Mary Sharon Smith of Conway, Michigan and Judy Weber of Newberry; sisters-in-law Shirley Conlon and Karen Conlon both of Newberry; several nieces and nephews.
Per her request, cremation services were accorded. Internment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Curtis in the summer of 2024.

EllaMae A. McNeil
November 24. 1931 – December 8, 2023
Longtime Newberry resident, EllaMae A. McNeil, 92, died Friday morning, December 8, 2023 at her residence in the presence of her loving family and the care of North Woods Hospice.
Born November 24, 1931 in Paradise, daughter of the late Clinton and Irene (Gale) McMullen, EllaMae was a graduate of Whitefish Township School in Paradise.
During her lifetime, EllaMae held several employments as a waitress, mill worker, dietary aide at Tendercare Sault Ste. Marie and senior companion at Golden Leaves Living Center until her retirement. EllaMae enjoyed knitting, crocheting and spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, EllaMae is preceded in death by her husband Charles McNeil on January 22, 1973; brother Carl Clark and son-in-law Robin Whitman.
Survivors include her children, Charles (Debbie) McNeil of Auburn Hills and Irene Whitman of Newberry; grandchildren Phyllis (Mike) Monterosso, Michelle (Nathan Mercier) McNeil, Stacey (Jason) Cameron, Jason Whitman, Stephen Whitman and Corey Whitman; great-grandchildren Aly Cameron, Devan Cameron, Drake Cameron, Taylar Whitman, Autumn Whitman, Levi Whitman, Kaleigh McNeil, Madison (Neiko) McKeever and Sebastian McNeil, Brent Monterosso, Sophia Monterosso and Micheal Monterosso; great great-granddaughter Alice McNeil.
Graveside services will be held in the spring of 2024 at the Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Paradise with Pastor Melinda VanderSys, of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, officiating.
