Elgin “David” Mahn
September 30, 1937 – February 25, 2024
Long time Newberry resident Elgin “David” Mahn died February 25, 2024 at Golden Leaves Living Center following a courageous battle with vascular dementia.
David was born on September 30, 1937, in Newberry, Michigan, son of Elgin H. Mahn and Laina (Honkonen) Mahn. While he was in high school, he played on the baseball, basketball and football teams. David graduated from Newberry High School in 1955.
Following his graduation, he attended Northern Michigan University. While at NMU, David was active in Luther League. It was at Luther League where he met his future wife, Marcia (Jacobson). David graduated from NMU with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business.
David married the love of his life on August 1, 1959. He began teaching in Engadine and also completed his Master’s Degree in Business Education. He spent over 30 years teaching at Tahquamenon Area Schools where he coached and was the yearbook advisor.
His hobbies included going to high school football and basketball games, often working the scoreboard with his good friend, Ernie Kaven. David was an avid Detroit Lion, Tiger, Piston and Red Wing fan. His summers were spent gardening, picking berries and putting up firewood for winter. He was also involved on the church council, finance committee and choir at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. David was a member of the Board of Directors at the Tahquamenon Area Credit Union.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his Uncles Charles and Bill Honkonen; Aunts Ida Honkonen, Elma Haapala, Kathrine Baine, Sally Hockstad, Lucille Lapasky and cousin Charles (Doris) Haapala.
Survivors include his wife Marcia (Jacobson) Mahn of Newberry; Debra (Joe) Hilliard of McMillan; Lisa (Dave) Dake of Newberry; grandchildren Zachary (Nicole) Hilliard of Newberry; Erica Hilliard (Sanjay Shenoy) of Milford, MI and great grandchildren Madelynn and Odin Hilliard of Newberry; brother-in-law James Jacobson of Lady Lake, Florida.
A gathering of family and friends will take place Saturday March 2, 2024 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Newberry. A memorial service celebrating the life of David will follow at 11:00 am at the church with Pastor Melinda VanderSys officiating.

Judith Eileen Bridges
April 17, 1940 – February 24, 2024
Former longtime Newberry resident, Judith Eileen Bridges, 83 of Marquette, died Saturday evening, February 24, 2024 at her grandson’s residence in Negaunee.
Born April 17, 1940 in Newberry, daughter of the late John and Dorothy (Green) Benson, Judith was a graduate of Newberry High School and attended Bay de Noc Community College in Escanaba.
Judith was a devoted homemaker raising her family and has been a resident of the Marquette area for the past 20 years.
In addition to her parents, Judith is preceded in death by daughter Pamela Stanley and brother Billy Benson.
Survivors include her loving children Thomas Bridges of Escanaba, Michael (Dawn) Bridges of Algoma, Wisconsin, Belinda (Jeff Sobleskey) Bridges of Newberry and Tina (Matt) Bach of Manistique; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; close friend Kacie Hanford.
Per request, cremation services were accorded. A gathering of family and friends celebrating the life of Judith will be held at a later date.

Wanda Amanda Dahn
September 2, 1928 – February 22, 2024
Wanda Amanda Dahn, 95, of Newberry, died peacefully Thursday morning, February 22, 2024 at her residence in the presence and care of her loving family.
Born September 2, 1928 in Howell, daughter of the late William J. and Grace M. (Walker) Priestley, Wanda was a graduate of Milford High School.
Wanda married Richard Dahn, residing in Howell for many years. In 1981, they moved to Newberry where she was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, founding member and volunteer of the Newberry Senior Citizens and volunteer at the Tahquamenon Logging Museum. Wanda enjoyed quilting, flower gardening and watching birds.
In addition to her parents, Wanda is preceded in death by her husband Richard on December 3, 2002, great-grandson Christian Brill, three sisters and four brothers.
Survivors include her loving daughters, Peggy Dahn of Newberry and Vicky (Paul) Buckman of Redford, grandchildren Terry Brill, Tim Brill, Lyndsay (Tarran) Johnson-LeMieux and Chance (Sheree) Buckman; five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Per request, cremation services were accorded with no public services scheduled.

Charles Anderson
September 4, 1935 – January 30, 2024
Charles William “Bud” Anderson, age 88, passed away January 30, 2024 at William Childs Hospice House.
Bud was born September 4, 1935 in Newberry, MI.
Mr. Anderson served in the United States Navy during Korea and Vietnam. After his 26 years in the United States Military, he joined the state of Michigan as an educator for an additional 15 years.
He was a member of Rudyard Christian Reformed Church.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Anderson; daughter, Karen Gibson; sons, William (Pam) Anderson and Charles (Kim) Anderson; grandchildren, Ryan (Monika) Anderson, William (Christina) Dewitt, Bradley (Ara) Dewitt, Karl (Baige) Dewitt; great-grandchildren, Ben and Estella Anderson, Claire, Luke, and Elle Dewitt; sister, Matilda (John) Beaudrie.
He was predeceased by his parents and siblings, Elain McKinney and Darlene McKillop.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Spring 2024, with details to be announced.
