Thomas E. Reese
January 21, 1937 – January 12, 2022
Thomas Everett Reese, 84, of Lakefield Township, died Wednesday evening January 12, 2022 at Helen Newberry Joy Hospital in Newberry.
Born January 21, 1937 in Lima, Ohio, son of the late Everett and Edith Reese, Tom was a high school graduate from Gomer, Ohio where he excelled in baseball.
Tom was employed at the Ford Motor Company Engine Plant in Lima, Ohio and also owned and operated Reese’s Marathon in Ada, Ohio for several years until his retirement. During this time, Tom and his family spent time in the Upper Peninsula on Big Manistique Lake.
Tom has been a resident of Lakefield Township for over 33 years and was a member of the Newberry Goodfellows, Newberry Country Club and the B.P.O.E. #1705 all of Newberry. Tom enjoyed the outdoors hunting, fishing and golfing.
In addition to his parents, Tom is preceded in death by his wife Judith on January 27, 2020, son John David in 2000 and sister Nesta Steman.
Survivors include his son and daughter Gary Reese and Marty Waugh both of Ada, Ohio; grandchildren Devon, Alexandra and Danielle Waugh; brother-in-law Roland Steman of Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia; nephews Douglas Steman of Lake Norman, North Carolina and Brian Steman of Virginia.
Per request, cremation services were accorded with no public services scheduled. A private family interment will take place at a later date at Woodlawn Cemetery in Ada, Ohio.

William C. Franklin
April 9, 1949 – January 10, 2022
William Clifford Franklin, 72, of Engadine, died Monday morning January 10, 2022 at his residence.
Born April 9, 1949 in Wayne, Michigan, son of the late William and Betty (Blume) Franklin, Bill married the former Patsy Smith on October 21, 1966 in Farmington, Michigan.
Bill was formerly employed at Mannion Express in Detroit and later at General Foods in Livonia. Upon moving to Engadine, Bill was employed at Louisiana-Pacific Corp. until his retirement in 1991.
Bill enjoyed restoring cars, deer hunting, raising home pigeons, collecting NASCAR memorabilia and was an avid Detroit Tigers fan.
In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his sister Betty Minor.
Survivors include his loving wife, Patsy, of Engadine; children Robert (Kristy) Franklin on Zeeland, Cathy (Dusty) Crosby of Newberry and Brian (Diane) Franklin on Clio; grandchildren Mindy (Kyle) Hawley, April Stevenson, Brandon (Emily) Franklin, Kyle (Lena) Franklin, Dustin (Megan Holmes) Crosby, Tyler Crosby, Tristan Franklin, Skyler Franklin, Diana (Jacob) Mathis and Austin Atwood; great-grandchildren Joey, Amelia, Molly, Waylon, Taylor, Caitlyn, Madelyn, Isabelle and Abel; sister Barb (Ron) Polcyn of Perry.
Per request, cremation services were accorded. A gathering of family and friends will take place at a later date.

Sandra Kay Wass
November 2, 1948 – January 16, 2022
Former Newberry resident, Sandra Kay Wass, 73, of Gwinn, died Sunday January 16, 2022 at U.P. Health Systems-Marquette from complications due to COVID-19. Sandra was born November 2, 1948 in Pontiac, daughter of the late Edwin Leo Proctor and Gladys Amelia (Bushaw) Marr and Sydney C. Marr.
In the early 1980’s, Sandra moved to Newberry to help with her parents. She was formerly employed as a cook at Helen Newberry Joy Hospital in Newberry until her retirement. From time to time, she would move back to the Detroit area where she liked to be, but always found her way back to the U.P. with the ones she loved most.
In addition to her parents, Sandra is preceded in death by her husband “Big” Tom in 2006 and siblings Daniel Proctor and Edwin Proctor.
Survivors include her children Stacey (Ed) Neff of Newberry, Bill (Missy) Briggs of Kentucky and Cory Wass of Gwinn; special friend Greg Pesnell of Gwinn; companion cat “Maxx”; grandchildren Kaye-Lani (Josh) Levan, Justin (Ally) Neff, Nicole (Keith) Murphy, Jessie Briggs, Lexus Johnson, Wyatt Briggs, Jordan Briggs, Tommy Wass, Liam Wass, Opal Wass, Iris Wass and Kaley Wass; great-grandchildren Bree Neff, Kolten Levan, Logan Murphy, Owen Murphy, Nathan Murphy, Evie MacDonald, Violet Wass with two more great-grandchildren to be expected.

Catherine L. Robinson
August 12, 1952 – January 17, 2022
Catherine “Cathy” Lynne Robinson of Comstock Park, MI, age 69, passed away on January 17, 2022. She was born to Walter Raymond Bergstrom and Mary Lou Snook, on August 12, 1952.
Cathy is preceded in death by her younger sister; Nancy Jean Depotty; father; Walter Raymond Bergstrom, brother; Rick Snook, stepfather; Vincent R. Snook, mother; Mary Lou Snook (Edgar).
Survived by her loving husband; Bruce Robinson, children; Brett (Rachel) Robinson, Jennifer (Daniel) Schoonmaker, Melissa (Bret) Hammel, grandchildren; Jalen, Addisyn, Delaney, Blakestin, Danielle, Mackenzie, Austin, Skylar, Peyton brother; Mike (Marianne) Bergstrom, and many beloved nieces, nephews, aunts, and cousins.
Cathy’s legacy and greatest love was that of her family. She was a loving and selflessly caring mother, grandmother, and wife. Her constant presence and support will be missed in the lives of many. Cathy also loved to travel with her family.

Division St., Sparta, MI 49345 as well as a Memorial Visitation on Friday, January 21, 2022 from 10:00AM to 11:00AM with a Mass of Christian Burial starting at 11:00AM at St. Alphonsus Parish, 224 Carrier St NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505.
