Michael A. Selbee
November 12, 1952 – February 8, 2022
Michael Allan Selbee, 69, of Paradise, died Tuesday February 8, 2022 at his residence.
Born November 12, 1952 in Kalamazoo, son of the late Neal and Norma (Whitesell) Selbee, Michael was a 1970 graduate of Climax-Scotts High School in Climax, Michigan. Michael served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge.
On September 1, 1973, Michael married the former Joanne Mason in Galesburg, Michigan, made Delton their home and was employed at Landscape Forms in Comstock, Michigan. A resident of Paradise since 1992, Michael was employed as a Park Ranger for the Department of Natural Resources until his retirement in 2014.
Michael was a volunteer with Fishes and Loaves in Paradise and his hobbies included gardening, reading and working on outdoor equipment, tractors and mowers.
Michael is preceded in death by his parents, Neal and Norma Selbee, in-laws Richard and Arlus Mason and several aunts and uncles.
Survivors include his loving wife, Joanne, of Paradise; nephews Ken (Jacki) Coburn, Trevor Adams and Quade Adams; nieces Emily (Sandeep) Bidari and Carrie (Kevin) Gibson; one great-nephew and three great-nieces; siblings Susan (David) O’Donnell of Climax and Molly (Mark) Reilly of Kalamazoo; sister-in-law Janice (Tom) Adams of Gaylord and loved all his dogs he had over the years, especially Beary and Chicka.
Per request, cremation services were accorded with no public services scheduled.

Carol Lee Gustafson
February 7, 1939 – February 12, 2022
Carol Lee Gustafson, 83, of Newberry, died Saturday February 12, 2022 at Helen Newberry Joy Hospital.
Born February 7, 1939 in Flint, daughter of the late Lee and Betty (Wolfe) Meeboer, Carol was a graduate of Central High School in Flint. Carol was employed as a bookkeeper for B & M Cartage in Flint.
A resident of the Newberry area since 1987, Carol married James W. Gustafson on January 15, 1988 in Newberry and continued as a bookkeeper for Burton Trucking in Newberry, Mental Health and the Newberry Correctional Facility until her retirement in 2002.
Carol loved her family very much and always enjoyed spending time with her 13 grandchildren and entertaining them at their lake home in McMillan. Carol was very talented in art and design and loved home decorating and creating and designing home décor. She was an excellent cook and baker and the grandchildren loved making one of her favorite dishes named after her, “Carol’s Dip”, it’s a family favorite. Carol was a member of the B.P.O.E. #1705 in Newberry.
In addition to her parents, Carol is preceded in death by her husband James on April 16, 2004, step-daughter Nena Evans and grandson Owen Anderson.
Survivors include her daughters Carrie Moore (Mike Blakely) and Jennifer (John) Suriano all of Newberry; step-children Lisa M. Andrud of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Cathy M. (Ron) Moretto of Wolverine Lake, Michigan and Eric J. Gustafson of Milford, Michigan; son-in-law Thomas S. Evans of Robesonia, Pennsylvania; grandchildren Jorja Suriano, Jace Suriano, Julian Suriano, Travis Andrud, Rachel Andrud, Nathan Andrud, Daniel Andrud, Alaura (Dillon) Bak, Charlotte Evans, Violet Evans, Nolan Gustafson and Arika Gustafson; Step-sister Joanne (Kenneth) Booher of Flint Michigan, nieces Linda (Duane) Linder of New Hudson, Michigan, Sandra (Rob) Schroeder of Carmichael, California and Jody Liddell of Lebanon, Tennessee; nephew Robert (Denise) Booher of Fenton, Michigan; former husband George (Doris) Ostrander of Floral City, Florida.
Per request, cremation services were accorded. A gathering of family and friends celebrating the life of Carol will be held in the summer of 2022.

Laura Rose Woolard
April 28, 1960 – February 9, 2020
Laura Rose Woolard, 61, of Ishpeming Twp. entered eternal life Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at her home, surrounded by her loving husband and three daughters. She suffered a two year battle with lung cancer and debilitating lymphedema.
Laura was born in Newberry, MI on April 28, 1960, a daughter of the late Jacqueline (Dudley) and Raymond Schaefer. She grew up in Lakefield Township and was a graduate of Newberry High School, Class of 1978. Laura continued her education and in 1982, received a Bachelor of Music Education from Northern Michigan University. Her professional career included music teaching jobs in Clarkston, Manistique, Elgin, IL, and most recently, Aspen Ridge Elementary School (NICE Community Schools). Additionally, over the years, she has done considerable substitute teaching.
Music has always been an integral part of Laura’s life: she enjoyed playing the piano, singing with her sisters, teaching private music lessons in voice, piano, and guitar, and directing/participating in church music ministry. She frequently served as piano accompanist and adjudicator for school music festivals and was the accompanist for Gitche Gumee Boys Choir in Marquette.
Laura was a dedicated and faithful Christian who loved the Lord. She was an active member of CrossBridge Church in Ishpeming.
Family was the centerpiece of Laura’s life, accompanied faithfully by her devoted husband for almost thirty-eight years. She fiercely loved all of her family, especially her three daughters. Laura made every effort to attend all family gatherings. She especially liked to go camping with her family, and Copper Harbor was always a favorite destination. More recently, she cherished time spent at the family-owned lake frontage.
Scrapbooking was another of Laura’s favorite pastimes. Her daughters are lucky to have their precious childhood memories memorialized in such a beautiful format. Laura also loved a good garage sale or shopping at thrift stores; the search for unexpected treasures brought her great joy.
She is survived by her husband Mark Woolard of Ishpeming, whom she married on Aug 11, 1984, in Marquette. Three daughters – Christina Woolard of Brooklyn, NY; Rachel (David) Eudy of Goose Creek, SC; and Rebecca Woolard of Ishpeming; three sisters, Sharon (Terry) Green of Harvey; Amy (Jim) Minard; and Virginia Hedberg both of Ishpeming; brother Scott (Kelly) Schaefer of McMillan; brother-in-law, Gary (Kathy) Woolard of Wyoming, MI; along with several nieces and nephews. Laura was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Jacqueline Schaefer; a sister Sue Schaefer; and an infant brother, Allan Schaefer; brothers-in-law – Gary Hedberg and Dale Woolard.
The family greeted relatives and friends on Monday, February 14, 2022 from 3:00-5:00pm at the CrossBridge Church in Ishpeming. A funeral service followed at 5:00pm with Pastor Kevin McIlhany officiating. A dinner was served at the church following the services. Interment will take place in the spring at the West Lakefield Twp. Cemetery.

Dorothy Louise Fair
April 9, 1934 – February 7, 2022
Dorothy Louise Fair, 87, of Newberry, passed away Monday February 7, 2022 at her residence in the presence of her family and the care of North Woods Home Health Care. Dorothy was born April 9, 1934 in Negaunee, daughter of the late Louie and Elsie (Addington) Yeadon.
On July 30, 1949, she married the love of her life, Clifford Fair, and 72 1/2 years later he was still the love of her life. They had three sons they loved very much and what a family!
She loved rock collecting, taking care of her flower garden and being out in the woods. She loved the outdoors so much, she worked with her husband, Clifford, in the woods.
On January 4, 1961, she made a decision that would change her life in a wonderful way. After studying the Bible, she dedicated her life to serve Jehovah and symbolized it by being baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. This bought her great joy and she loved talking to people about the Bible and especially taking time to conduct home bible studies with interested ones.
She was dearly loved and will be missed by all.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Louie and Elsie; sons Clifford and George; five sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include her loving husband, Clifford, of Newberry; son David (Gail) Fair of Newberry; three grandsons “George” Leroy, Shawn and Beau; five granddaughters Candace, Shannon, Lacosta, Michelle and Sheyenne; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews that were special to her.
Per request, cremation services were accorded. A service celebrating the life of Dorothy will be held at a later date.
