Angeline K. Nelson
September 6, 1931 – April 14, 2022
Lifelong Newberry resident, Angeline Katherine Nelson, 90 of St. Ignace, died Thursday morning April 14, 2022 at Evergreen Living Center in St. Ignace, Michigan.
Born September 6, 1931 in Newberry, daughter of the late Wilbur and Mabel (Gustafson) Stubbs, Angie was a graduate of Newberry High School.
On June 28, 1952, Angie married Roger M. Nelson in Newberry. In addition to being a homemaker raising her family, Angie was employed as a Teacher’s Aide at the former Newberry Regional Mental Health Center until her retirement in 1983. Angie was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, a volunteer for the Tahquamenon Area Senior Citizens and enjoyed baking, reading and sewing.
In addition to her parents, Angie is preceded in death by her husband Roger on August 18, 2000; son Kenneth; siblings Theodore, Kenneth, Florence and Elaine.
Survivors include her children Nora (Mitch) Brow of Lakefield, Rodney (Nancy) of St. Ignace, Gary (Patty) of DePere, Wisconsin and Philip (Cheryl) of Newberry; 19 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
A gathering of family and friends will take place Friday May 13, 2022 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am. Funeral services celebrating the life of Angie will follow at 11:00 am at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Newberry with Pastor Melinda VanderSys officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Home Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church or Tahquamenon Area Senior Citizens in her loving memory.

Louise Eddy
July 26, 1944 – April 16, 2022
Louise Eddy, wife, mom, grandma, sweetie tootie, and granny, age 77, a longtime resident of the Newberry area, died at her home surrounded by her family while under the care of North Woods Home Care and Hospice on Saturday, April 16, 2022.
Born on July 26, 1944, in Manila, Arkansas, she was a daughter of the late Henry T. and Beulah M. (Daniels) Crow. On February 12, 1961, she married Robert “Bob” Eddy in Kalamazoo, MI. They moved to the Newberry area in 1968 and she began her employment with the state of Michigan at the Newberry Regional Mental Health Center. She later retired from the state, and then she and husband Robert bought Bub’s Bar in McMillan, which they owned for several years.
She and Bob enjoyed camping for 20+ years at the Big Lake Campground where many lifelong friends were made including the owners Bob and Holly Lear who made Louise their official campground “Host”. Louise was a member of the Newberry Eagles, served on the Board of Directors at the Tahquamenon Area Credit Union for several years and served on the Board of Review for Pentland Twp. Louise is preceded in death by her parents, an infant son Robert Leslie, Jr, and her siblings Joice Crow, Wanda Lee Marsh, her brother Billy Crow and her son-in-law Steve Masich.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Bob of Newberry, daughter, Mindy Masich, of Newberry and Missy (Andy) Evans of Cheboygan; grandchildren Michelle (Rudy Mendoza) Masich, Rob (Kara Lyke) Masich, and Miranda (Mike Peters) Masich; great grandchildren Tyler Masich, Hailey Mendoza, and Aaliyah Masich and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
As per her request, cremation services have already been accorded. There will be no public services.

Gail E. Johnson
January 11, 1942 – November 24, 2021
Gail E. Johnson, age 79 of Midland, passed away Wednesday November 24, 2021 at MidMichigan Medical Center in Midland.
The daughter of the late Thomas J. and Leola I. (House) McLaren was born in Newberry, Michigan on January 11, 1942. She enjoyed cooking, knitting, crocheting, collecting cook books and was an avid animal lover.
Surviving is her husband of 58 years, Kenneth L. Johnson of whom she married on April 6, 1963 in McMillan United Methodist Church; son, Eric (John Bennett) Johnson of Charlotte, NC; daughter, Marcia (Mike) Payne of Midland; grandchildren, Ryan (Joanna) Payne, Shawn (fiancé, Jessica Gault) Payne; brother, John T. (Louetta) McLaren and his family, Jason (Shannon) McLaren, Danielle (Jay) Jolly, Sara (John) Paul. In addition to her parents, Gail was preceded in death by her brother, David McLaren.
A celebration of Gail’s life will take place at the chapel of First United Methodist Church of Midland, April 30, 2022, 11:00am. A luncheon will follow at the Ingersoll Township Hall.
Norma Gloria Durga
April 24, 1937 – April 9, 2022
Norma Gloria (Lehto) Durga, age 84, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2022, wrapped in the loving arms of one of her God children (niece) with dignity and grace.
Gloria was born in Newberry, on April 24, 1937 to the late Jacob and Laimi (Mattson) Lehto. She was raised on the farm and met her husband Richard Durga at East Lake, where they got caught kissing under the water by her older sister Shirley. Later they were married on April 17, 1954.
They decided to settle in Traverse City, Michigan where she worked for the Department of Mental Health for 29 years. Twenty-seven of those years she worked with children and most years with Special Education as a classroom assistant, lifeguard and activities assistant. She absolutely loved her job and was able to make a difference in so many children’s lives.
Before retirement they bought some property on Big Manistique Lake and spent several years clearing the land so they could build their retirement home on the water and Richard’s dreams would come true. Before and after retirement her hobbies were gardening, sewing, knitting, deer hunting, fishing and basically anything a man could do….most likely she could do better. She always showed up with her SISU!
She also loved to spoil her kitties, nieces and nephews and helping family, friends, neighbors, her community and her church. Her truest joy and pride came from taking wonderful care of her husband Richard for 68 years.
Preceded in death by her parents and her siblings and their spouses, Harry (Bethel) Lehto, Hugh John (Rea) Lehto, Nora (Art) VanEnkevort, Melvin (Carmen) Lehto, Shirley Lehto Tann, Roy Raymond (Ina) Lehto, Clifford Michael (Roberta) Lehto, Donald (Ann) Lehto, Ernest (Shirley) Lehto and numerous in-laws.
Survived by her husband Richard Durga, God Child (niece) Lissa Tann, her 18 year old cat Baby, her in-laws Wayne (Diane) Durga, Jack (Carolyn) Durga, Gerry (Darlene Durga) Fisher, Beverly Durga Harris and Karen Durga. Many, many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly along with greats and great-greats.
Per her request cremation services will be accorded and a memorial will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be directed to research for a Parkinson’s cure in her memory.

Arlene Leila Floria
January 19, 1926 – April 8, 2022
Former Engadine and Lansing resident, Arlene Leila Floria, 96, of Traverse City, died Friday afternoon April 8, 2022. She was in the care of her loving family and Care Team Hospice. Arlene was born January 19, 1926 in Toledo, Ohio, daughter of the late Earl and Leila (Shoemaker) Bourdo.
On March 25, 1944, Arlene married Charles “Cal” Floria in Orangeville, Michigan. She was a devoted homemaker raising her family. A resident of the Engadine /Naubinway area since 1984, Arlene was a member of the Engadine United Methodist Church and previous member of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church of Lansing, a 78 year member Hiawatha Sportsman’s Club, Engadine Lions Club and a volunteer at the Engadine Pantry. Arlene enjoyed cooking and supported the annual deer camp crew of family and friends with her homemade meals. She and her husband, Cal, also spent nearly 20 years wintering in the Florida Keys, making new friends and enjoying warm weather activities.
In addition to her parents, Arlene was preceded in death by her husband Cal, daughter Kathy Wilkins, brother Earl Bourdo Jr, sister Rita Erb, and grandson Andrew Floria.
Survivors include her sons Larry (Collette) Floria of Chicago, Illinois, Rick (Barb) Floria of Suttons Bay, Michigan, Kevin Floria of Grand Ledge, Michigan and Tim Floria (Sue Bingham) of Traverse City, Michigan; 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.
A special thanks to Sue Bingham for the loving care she provided this past year.
Graveside services will be held Saturday June 4, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Naubinway Cemetery with Dean Brodberg presiding.
