Cindy Sue Fair, age 64, of Berea, Kentucky, passed away June 10, 2022 of cancer. She was born October 15, 1957.
She is survived by her mother and step-father, Lorraine and James UpChurch of Toledo, OH; father Dale (Alma) of Newberry; sister Terri Willis of Toledo, OH; son Steven Severance of Toledo, OH; daughters Lori Severance of Kincheloe, MI and Melanie Middleton of Kincheloe, MI; four grandchildren; and longtime partner Ralph Huff.
Steven Paul Ash Sr.
February 8, 1968 – June 18, 2022
Steven Paul Ash Sr., age 54, of Manistique, MI, passed away with his loving family by his side on June 18, 2022. He was born in Knox, IN on February 8, 1968, the son of Nathan Daniel Sr. and Georgia (Allen) Ash. He attended school in Newberry, MI and graduated with the class of 1986.
Steve came to Manistique in 2000 and worked at Kewadin Casino as a shift manager and pit boss. He liked hunting and fishing, especially with his grandson Stevie, and looked forward to the Curtis Fireworks every 4th of July. Steve loved spending time with family, most especially with his grandbabies.
Steve is survived by his son Steven (Abbie Galen) Ash II, of Manistique, MI; daughter Karyn Cloudman of Seney, MI; brother Brian (Pia) Ash of Mount Pleasant, MI; sisters Penny (Keith) Carney of Newberry, MI, and Tammy (Terry St. John) Dibble of Manistique, MI, Ellen Ash of Newberry, MI; and grandchildren Steven “Stevie” Paul Ash III of Manistique, MI McKenzie Hannah of Manistique, MI. He is preceded in death by his parents, Nathan and Georgia Ash, and his brother Nathan Daniel Ash Jr.

George F. Major
February 9, 1936 – June 18, 2022
George F. Major, 86, of Newberry, died Saturday afternoon June 18, 2022 at Medilodge in Munising, Michigan.
Born February 9, 1936 in Newberry, son of the late Ernest and Irma (Lee) Major, George enlisted in the United States Army on March 31, 1953 and served during the Korean War until his honorable discharge on March 17, 1956 attaining the rank of Specialist Third Class.
George was a truck driver for several companies for several years until his retirement in 2000. George was a member of River of Life Worship Center and the American Legion Post #74 both of Newberry.
In addition to his parents, George is preceded in death by his daughters Sheryol Schuller and Kimberly Stilson; step daughter Tamera Garner; siblings Louis Major, Robert Major, Joyce Papist, Shirley Grove and Iris Brewer.
Survivors include his loving wife, the former Judy Beek of Newberry, whom he married November 30, 2002 in Eckerman; daughters Pamela (Jim) Foster and Georgia (Billy) French all of Newberry; son-in-law Daniel Stilson of Gillette, Wyoming; step-children Shelly (Marty) Nelson of Kingman, Arizona, Scott (Kimberly) Lawrence of Roswell, Georgia, Heather Lawrence of Strongs and Shawn (Katrina) Lawrence of Newberry; 24 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; his miniature dachshund companion Sweetpea.
Per request, cremation services were accorded. A gathering of family and friends will take place Friday July 1, 2022 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at the River of Life Worship Center in Newberry. A memorial service celebrating the life of George will follow at 11:00 am at the church with Wanda Ruby officiating. Full military honors conducted by the United States Army Honor Guard and the American Legion Post #74 will conclude the services at the church.

Pearl Esther Schnorr
January 14, 1926 – June 18, 2022
Longtime Newberry resident, Pearl Esther Schnorr, 96, died Saturday morning, June 18, 2022 at Helen Newberry Joy Hospital.
Born January 14, 1926 in Kansas City, Missouri, adoptive daughter of the late Frederick and Emilie (Rischmiller) Riebe, Pearl was a graduate of Arlington Senior High School in Arlington, Minnesota and a graduate of the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis obtaining an associate’s degree in science and literary arts.
On December 16, 1949, Pearl married Reverend Clarence G. Schnorr in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Pearl was a devoted homemaker raising her family throughout her husband’s ministry spanning over 39 years in the Virgin Islands, Menominee, Michigan, Mukwonago, Wisconsin, Horicon, Wisconsin, Grand Marais, Michigan and most recently at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Newberry. During this time, Pearl was active in the ladies group and choir at the various congregations. She also was the former treasurer of the Newberry Women’s Club in Newberry.
In addition to her parents, Pearl is preceded in death by her husband on March 18, 2012; brother Vern Prinz and granddaughter Michele Rainey.
Survivors include her children Timothy of Phillips, Wisconsin, Deborah (Terry) Garczynski of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Anne Rainey of Westland and Michael of Newberry; 6 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; sister Jane Bernard of Redwood City, California; siblings-in-law Audrey (Claude) Laurent all of Two Rivers, Wisconsin; several nieces and nephews.
A gathering of family and friends celebrating the life of Pearl will be held Friday June 24, 2022 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Beaulieu Funeral Home in Newberry. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Donald Jones officiating. Interment will take place at Forest Home Cemetery.
